Heather Cousins first promt

Why would the author put in angry responces from people in the last chapter? What does that tell us about the autthor? Was he trying to make fun of them, or somehow apologize for affentding them in any way?

I do think that it is interesting that Jon put these angry letters in the last chapter. I definitely don’t think that he’s making fun of them. The whole entire book Jon doesn’t make fun of anyone, he may have say negative things about someone, but he never openly insults anyone. As for putting them there to apologize, I think that’s kind of the reason, but I would think that he would have apologized to those offended in other ways, such as in person or in the magazine he writes for. However I think the biggest reason that they are there is because they are in fact an important part of the story. Now they may not be part of what happened on May 10, but it is important for the readers to understand the critic’s reactions. Jon says that he wrote this book to inform people of what happened on that disastrous day. I would say that Jon put them there because he thought that they were important parts to understanding the event. Yes, it is true that Jon did report on perhaps “personally sensitive” topics; which leads me to the question: where do you draw the line between reporting what happened and invading somebody’s private life?
