Nick Rizzo's First Prompt

Overall, what did you think of Into Thin Air? Was it great or horrible? Was it clear or confusing? Happy ending or sad ending? How did you think Jon felt after everything had happened?

I thought that the first part of the book was a bore. Good, but somewhat boring (see my thread). But at chapter 14 it made a complete turn around. He stopped writing about the events before the climb and what the climbers have done, and focuses on the actual epic climb of Everest. The writing is amazing. It is truly worthy of the events. He mixes accounts of he climb with his own overview. Bourkeev’s rescue is particularly enticing. He goes into just the right amount of detail. The same is with Beck’s tale.
But the slow start is sure to turn-off many readers, myself included.
